Our skin breathes through its natural follicle openings called pores. But when they become enlarged, it causes open pores. Open pores are found more in oily or combination skin types because of excess sebum or oil production, which will make them more visible. Lack of cleanliness will lead to settlement of tissues or oil around the pores, making them larger in appearance. Genetics, as well as ageing, are other reasons behind open pores. Egg white

Papaya paste

Mash a few ripened papaya and apply the paste on the face. Leave it for 20minutes. Repeating it on alternate days will help in tightening, toning, and cleansing the skin resulting in removing dirt and reduction as well as prevention of open pores.

Gram flour or besan face mask

Mix one tablespoon of gram flour with an equal amount of yoghurt or milk and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Make a paste out of this mix and apply the same on face. Leave it for a minimum of 20 minutes. Then rinse with cool water and softly remove with a towel. Quarterly application can give amazing results by removing dead cells, exfoliating skin, as well as tightening up pores.

Banana scrub

Peel a ripened banana and softly scrub it on the face. Wash with cool water after 10 to 15 minutes. Regular application will make the skin smooth by rejuvenating it with the help of antioxidants and minerals naturally present in banana.

Ice or cold water

Wrap few ice cubes inside a clean and smooth cloth. Then, gently apply it on the face and the affected area for a duration of 15 to 30 minutes. Cucumber-Lemon juice face mask

Repeating the same in two or three weeks can slow down ageing by providing soothing and nourishment naturally reducing open pores.

Turmeric-Milk paste

Finely mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder and one tablespoon of milk to make a soft paste. Apply this on areas having open pores and leave the same for at least 10 minutes. Then remove it with cool water. Turmeric’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties will kill the bacteria and cure inflammation, reducing open pores. Milk is a natural cleanser. The routine application will give amazing results.

Tomato mask

Take one tomato and mix it with one teaspoon of honey. Make the mix into a paste and apply it on the area affected by open pores. Rinse it after letting the paste dry for at least 10 minutes. Daily usage will tighten up open pores by balancing the skin through the natural acids present in tomatoes.

Butter-Salt mix

Mix butter with a little salt and evenly apply this mix on face and affected area. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Routine application will reduce the size of open pores.


All these are some remedies for open pores, which can be easily done from our homes with readily available ingredients. But, taking care of the following simple yet important things and making them a daily routine can keep us away from open pores.
