Know Everything About Sunscreen

Nowadays there is a fuss about sunscreen, and we could see dermatologists and skincare vloggers quoting the importance of sunscreen everywhere. As we are living in a tropical country, dealing with the sun is so severe, and without sunscreen, it’s too much worse. Sun exposure, rays, harmful effects are the scarier factors that keep people rolling with sunscreen. Now the real question is – Is sunscreen that worthy? Well, yes, and here is why!

The sun emits UV rays, and there are mainly 3 types of them – UVA, UVB and UVC. UVA rays are present throughout the day, and it penetrates the epidermis and its dermis layer. These rays compel the skin to produce more melanin, resulting in tan, but they also contribute skin cancer and cause fine lines and wrinkles. By entering inside the dermis layer, the UVA rays damage the collagen compound. Since it is the collagen compound that is responsible for making the skin youthful and plum, damaging this could cause severe skin problems. UVB rays are only present between 10 AM and 4 PM, as the temperature is high. These rays cannot penetrate the dermis, and hence it affects the epidermis. It can cause skin burn and can even be a cause for skin cancer. UVCs have short wavelengths, and therefore they don’t do much on the skin.

It is found that Skin Cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer and this primarily occurs when the UV radiation damages the DNA within our skin cells. Now coming back to our question, yes, sunscreen is worthy! Sunscreens act like a bulletproof vest for your skin, and most standard options contain more or less the same ingredients. Sunscreen acts as a mirror over the surface and reflects the UV rays outwards. And how much they reflect is based on the Sun protection factor. The higher the number, the rate of reflection will be pretty good. But still, no sunscreen can protect skin 100 percent from UV rays. Another factor regarding sunscreen is that you should always choose a broad spectrum sunscreen as it could tackle both UVA rays and UVB rays. Explaining sunscreen, it is always important to add benefits. Here are some advantages or reasons for you to wear sunscreen as part of your everyday routine.

Decreases the Risks of Skin Cancer

UVA rays are capable of penetrating your skin, and it can cause severe skin damages. This includes skin cancer. So whether it is sunny, windy or cloudy, sunscreen is a must. Using sunscreen regularly can lower the risk of skin cancer.

Prevents Tanning

Tanning is one common issue as we are living in a tropical country. Tanning happens due to the exposure of UVB rays. Choosing a sunscreen that has a minimum of SPF 30 is acute to prevent UVB rays.

Protection from Sunburns

Sunburns cause redness, swelling, itchiness, and skin peeling. Sunburns happen due to the influence of UVB rays, and this can escalate to skin cancers. Sunscreen scatters the UV rays and will act as a protecting shield from sunburns.

Slowdowns Aging

Ultraviolet exposure can even result in premature aging. This will lead to wrinkles and will cause leathery skin. In order to avoid this, there should be a protective layer over the skin proteins such as collagen, keratin, and elastin. Using sunscreen regularly can slow down premature aging, and it makes the skin you visibly younger.
